1. Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the new sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, hit theaters on May 5. We recommend you to jump on watching the original film, which finds our heroes putting their differences aside to join together and save the galaxy from the evil Ronan (Lee Pace).
2. Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2
The yellow nonsense-spewing creatures first introduced in 2010’s Despicable Me may have crossed over from cute to annoying. But the films, with their themes of family and loyalty, are actually not so bad. The third Despicable installment hits theaters June 30.
3. Captain America: Civil War
If like us you’re confused by the arrival of Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7) you may want to revisit last year’s big Marvel film, Captain America: Civil War. The movie introduces the latest version of Spider-Man (Tom Holland), a young teen that Iron Man recruits for his side of the conflict between the Avengers.
4. Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Whether or not you like the original Planet of the Apes films, the rebooted series – which is getting its third chapter, War for the Planet of the Apes, on July 14 – is amazing to watch. The original apes were made all out of makeup and prosthetic. But the new series come to life and bring a completely new element to the reboot.
